Family & Friends

ADAPT offers individual and group counselling/support to those who are affected by someone else’s drinking, drug use, or problem gambling. ADAPT has found that the best way for family and friends to gain the support and knowledge they seek is to first attend one of our comprehensive workshops – each designed with information specific to the concern. If additional support is required after attending one of the workshops, individual counselling services can be arranged.
*The person with the issue does not need to be a client of ADAPT in order for family and friends to access our services. This workshop is free and fully confidential. Family Day Workshop (Adult)
A day-long workshop for significant others designed to provide education about the effects of alcohol and/or drug use on the family and significant others. The workshop helps concerned individuals to be better able to help themselves and other family and friends to cope with these problems and to understand their own role in addressing a loved one’s substance use. The workshop provides an opportunity for concerned loved ones to gain support and share experiences with other families/friends experiencing similar concerns.

Family Day Workshops (Problem Gambling)
This workshop is designed to provide education about the effects of problem gambling on others. The workshop helps concerned loved ones to be better prepared to help themselves and other family members or friends to cope with these problems and to more clearly identify their role in addressing a loved one’s problem gambling. Counselling is intended to provide assistance regarding coping effectively with the individual who is experiencing the problem gambling and working on relationship issues related to the gambling behaviour and/or recovery. The group format also provides an opportunity for concerned loved ones to gain support and share experiences with other families/friends experiencing similar concerns. There is no fee to attend this workshop and all information is fully confidential. The problem gambler does not have to be a client of ADAPT for a family member or friend to attend.
